The Emmy Awards

During Hawaii Five-O’s 12-year run, it was nomintated a number of times for the coveted golden statuette, but won only once for music composition for a single episode.

The jazzy beat of the music of Morton Stevens brought him a nomination in 1969 for outstanding musical composition. 1973 was the year the show recieved its only nomination for outstanding drama series, five years after the series debut. Cinematography and music were the catagories that garnered the most nominations for the series.

1974 was the year where the music of Hawaii Five-O dominated the music catagory where  Stevens was again nominated for his music, this time for the episode ‘Hookman.’  His fellow nominees were also recognized for their compositions for the show, hence the show competed against itself, Stevens won. This was to be the only Emmy the show ever won.  Listed below are all the years the show was nominated and for which catagory.

In the 1978 broadcast Jack Lord made a rare appearance on stage and presented the award for Lead Actress in a Limited Series.  Meryl Streep won forher role in “Holocaust” but was not in attendance to accept the award herself.
